HGH And Bodybuilding
Bodybuilders are a smart bunch and it didn't take them too long to realize that when HGH was added to the drug cocktail they were already taking to build big muscles they could enjoy even more muscle development along with faster injury recovery. Until then GH had been a pretty much unknown anabolic agent, but not anymore. Those participating in bodybuilding competitions in the 1970s and 1980s presented with a more refined, clearly chiseled muscle development that was far more sculpted than what had been seen previously.

Kids Receiving HGH to Become Professional Athletes

Over the past decade, the use of HGH by athletes has been increasing. What’s most alarming is the number of kids that are now taking HGH to improve their sports performance and improve their chances of becoming professional athletes, even though there is no medical need for these kids to take HGH.

Recent stories in the news range include suspicions, disqualifications, and even criminal charges against amateur and professional athletes, and student athletes. The days when athlete sobriety is the only concern of sports columnists are gone.

Today’s athletes are accused of using steroids and other substances like HGH injections to obtain a competitive edge, which includes speed, strength, endurance, stimulation, quality of performance, tolerance to pain, or injury recovery. The idea that parents are providing kids with HGH to improve their changes of becoming professional athletes is alarming.

Regulatory Laws and Rules

Laws vary from state to state, and additionally, there are federal laws regulating the manufacturing, selling, distributing of HGH along with possessing, and using controlled substances, which includes HGH. Schools, athletic organizations, amateur leagues and professional leagues establish rules on drug use, eligibility, disqualification, and disciplinary action.

6. Short stature from Prader-Willi syndrome
7. Children with a history of intrauterine growth restriction (small for gestational age) who have not reached a normal height range by age 2 years
8. Children with idiopathic short stature who are more than 2.25 standard deviations below the mean height and who are unlikely to catch up in height
9. Pituitary dwarfism
10. Short bowel syndrome
11. SHOX gene deficiency.

For more information on the human growth hormone visit here. Many people do not fully understand the human growth hormone, what its purpose is in the body, the side effects of HGH injections, and what HGH can do for an adult. When used in children for a condition other than a medical one, it is even more difficult to understand.

HGH Use by Kids to Improve Sports Performance

There are some parents that will do anything to make sure their children are outperforming their peers. This is even more so when it comes to sports, which is highly competitive. Sadly, even in young children's sports have escalated to this level, mostly as a result of parents.

As a result, wealthy parents are willing to pay more than $48,000 a year to have their child injected with HGH in hopes that they will perform better in amateur sports and maybe even make it to the professional leagues.

Why are Kids Being Given HGH for Performance?

Great, so we have established that HGH is being given to kids to improve their performance in sports, but if you don’t understand how that is happening, you are not alone!

Human growth hormone has been forbidden in sports since its availability increased during the 1990s. It’s believed that human growth hormone will increase physical performance and increase muscle growth, although this has still not been proven. With children there is the benefit that that they will grow taller, even if it is only by a couple of inches, and this can be very beneficial in their ability to perform in sports. In addition, HGH has been shown to reduce the likelihood of injuries and increase the healing time when injuries do occur.

Even if it was legal to use HGH injections for non-medical reasons it should still only be adults that choose to use it, not parents deciding to inject their children because of a desire to gain a competitive edge.

Side Effects of HGH in Children

The side effects of using HGH injections in children range from mild to life threatening.

Common side effects in children include:

• Ear infections
• Abdominal pain
• Abdominal bloating
• Changes in vision
• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Skin rashes
• Itching
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Joint pain
• Muscle pain
• Fatigue
• Swelling of the hands, feet, and lower legs
• Vomiting

When HGH is given to children that have normal growth, the side effects are often serious because the HGH levels become too high. As a result, these children can suffer from:

• Diabetes
• Abnormal growth of their bones
• Abnormal growth of the heart, liver, and kidneys
• High blood pressure
• Hardening of the arteries
• Symptoms of Acromegaly
• Excessive growth of their bones
• Cancer

How HGH Works in Children

There are two cycles with HGH – the direct cycle and the indirect cycle.

The direct cycle – Are the result of HGH binding its receptors on target cells. The liver quickly converts HGH to IGF-1 Insulin like Growth Factor Type 1 (Somatomedin). IGF-1 is responsible for the majority of the beneficial effects linked with HGH acting on target cells. It can be measured in your blood to determine your level of growth hormone secretion.

The indirect cycle – During the indirect cycle, HGH is released primarily in pulses that occur during the initial sleep phases. The indirect effects are mediated mainly by IGF-1 secreted from the liver as well as other tissue and it is this that’s responsible for the HGH.

The two feedback circuits - positive feedback circuit and negative feedback circuit, are the core of the endocrine system. The positive feedback is seen when the output of a pathway stimulates inputs to that pathway. The negative feedback circuit uses GHRH and SS, two hypothalamic hormones, to control the secretion of HGH.

The Effectiveness of HGH in Children

When HGH injections are used to treat short statute, the children will receive injections until they reach an acceptable height. Most times some growth is seen within the first 3 to 4 months after treatment starts. The treatments are considered effective. Parents can expect appetite to increase and a reduction of body fat to occur. Of course, the side effects are relevant even with medical treatments and so your child’s endocrinologist will need to carefully monitor.

Research Studies on Children

  • A study of 31 children with short stature was initiated in 1982 (Albertsson-Wikland 1986). They received subcutaneous (sc) injections of pituitary HGH. A high growth response was seen in 29 of the 31 children.
  • Research (Kastrup, Christiansen, Andersen, Orskov 1983) proved that HGH injections are very effective in growth hormone children. Sixteen growth deficient children were given high injections daily for 2 years. Growth response increased during the first year. Absence of antibodies against HGH and local reactions at the injection site is evidence of the safety of the treatment, which was very well accepted by the children.
  • In 1985, Keith Kelley, M.D., a research scientist demonstrated that injections of cells that secrete high amounts of growth hormone could cause the shriveled thymus glands in old rats to grow until they became as large and healthy as those of young rats.
  • Endocrinologist Maurice Raben injected HGH into a dwarf child. The child began to grow normally and over the next 30 years thousands of children were injected with cadaver derived HGH.

Final Thought On HGH Given To Children Just Improve Athletic Performance!

There is something very disturbing about the practice of giving HGH injections to kids to improve their athletic performance. As a society have we become so competitive that we are willing to risk the health of our children just to see them succeed in sports. Because of the high cost this practice of HGH injections is currently limited to the wealthy, but make no mistake if it was cheaper you would likely see many parents do exactly the same thing.

With HGH testing becoming more standard throughout professional sports, it is hopeful that it will filter down into the amateur sports and we will see a stop to this

The appealing benefits of human growth hormone (HGH) are no longer a secret. But as undesirable as it may be, vision loss does happen all the same, particularly as people get older. It is therefore not surprising to see many older people with glasses. However, it has been suggested that having sufficient human growth hormone (HGH) in the body can help to improve vision.
