HGH is naturally produced in your body by your pituitary gland.

Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is a digestive disorder that deprives the sufferer of nutrients available in food consumed and essential for healthy living.

Is Young Blood the Answer to Stop Aging?

We all know that vampires are busy seeking out the blood of their victims, but now it seems that younger adults may have to worry about more than vampires. Two recent studies done by two independent teams of scientists show that blood from a younger member of the species when transfused into an older member of the species could stop aging - reverse signs of aging including rejuvenating brains and muscles.

Okay… the study wasn’t on humans, but still the results are interesting and certainly worth talking about. After all, how cool would that be if you could simply show up at blood bank of some sort, be transfused with younger blood, and watch your age slowly roll backwards to those younger years when everything was still in the right place and nothing ached.

About This Blood Transfusion Study

The study was done by two teams of scientists and it involved blood from young mice being transfused into old mice. What they found is that it reversed the signs of aging. As ghastly as this research might sound, the scientists say that it could help to find a treatment for conditions such as heart disease or Alzheimer’s disease.

While not involved in the research, Harvard Medical School’s Rudolph Tanzi, who is a professor of neurology, says, “I am extremely excited. These findings could be a game changer.”

This type of research isn’t new. This study was the result of centuries of theories that revolved around there being substances in the blood of young people that might be able to rejuvenate older people.

Previous Related Blood Transfusion Studies

Back in the 1950’s, a man by the name of Dr. Clive McCay, along with his colleagues, who all worked at the Cornell University, tested the idea that if you gave the blood of young rats to old rats, it could reverse the signs of aging. They did this by stitching together the skin of rats on their flanks to make a pair. Then they did a procedure that is called parabiosis, where the blood vessels grew to join each other so that the rats shared a circulatory system. That meant the young rat’s blood flowed through the older rat and the older rats blood flowed through the younger rat.

Later on, Dr. McCay and his team did necropsies on the rats and what they found is that the old rat’s cartilage was more youthful than previously. However, the scientists were not able to determine how this change occurred. At that time, scientists did not understand adequately how the body rejuvenates itself so they could not make a definitive conclusion of the relationship between the younger blood and the changes in the older rat.

Later on, it became known that stem cells are necessary to keep tissue vital. If tissues is damaged, the stem cells will move in and begin to produce new cells in order to replace the dying cells. As a person ages, our stem cells begin to slowly weaken.

Then in 2000, scientists discovered that stem cells did not die off as we aged. One professor of neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine, by the name of Thomas Rando, says, “There were plenty of stem cells there. They just don’t get the right signals.”

Dr. Rando and his team were curious about what would happen if the old signals were bathed in younger blood, so they brought back to life the experiments that Dr. McCay had been working on repeating the joining of men. The scientists joined young and old mice together for five weeks and then they examined the old mice. Their results jived with those of the 2005 study.

The old mice had grown new liver cells at the rate of the younger mice and their muscles had healed quickly. On the other hand, the young mice had prematurely aged. Their muscles were healing much slower and their stem cells did not become new cells as fast as prior to the procedure.

The experiment showed that the blood of the young mice had a compound that was able to wake up old stem cells and rejuvenate the aging tissue. It also showed that the old mice had a compound that slowed down the young mice’s resilience.

After moving to Harvard in 2004, Amy Wagers, who was a member of Dr. Rando’s original team, continued studying the blood of young mice. Recently she and her team showed that the blood of young mice was able to rejuvenate the hearts of old mice.

Dr. Wager and his colleagues wanted to identify the molecule responsible for this change and so they screened the blood of the animals. What they found was the protein GDF11 to be abundant in the younger mice and hardly found in the older mice. They wanted to see if the GDF11 was essential to the parabiosis so they produced this protein and then injected it in the older mice. It rejuvenated the hearts of the older mice.

The team was also curious whether GDF11 was what caused the rejuvenation of other tissue. The journal of Science reported an experiment on skeletal muscle and what they found was that stem cells in old muscles were revived by GDF11 so the older mice became stronger and their endurance increased.

Meanwhile at Stanford the researchers investigated whether the brains of old mice were altered by the blood of the young mice and in 2011 Villeda and his colleagues found that it did. They found that when old mice were given young blood they had a sudden burst of new neurons in their hippocampus, which is an area of the brain, were important memories are formed.

The next phase moved past parabiosis and removed the platelets and cells from the young mice’s blood and injected the plasma into the old mice, who then performed much better on their memory tests.

Dr. Wager and his team have been studying the region of the brain responsible for smells. Another study reported that parabiosis encouraged the growth of blood vessels in the mouse’s brain. What they found is that the new blood supply lead to new neurons growing and the older mice had an increased sense of smell.

After the link between the GDF11 protein and skeletal muscle and heart rejuvenation was established, Dr. Wagers studied whether the protein was also responsible for the brain changes. They injected GDF11 alone into the mice and found that it spurred the growth of blood vessels and neurons in the brain, although the change was not as large as that from parabiosis.

The director of the Neuroinflammation Research Center at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Ransohoff, says, “There’s no conflict between the two groups, which is heartening.”

Dr. Ransohoff among many other researchers are hopeful the mice experiments will lead to studies on people to see if the human GDF11 version, or other molecules in the blood of young people, will have a similar effect on older adults.

“We can turn back the clock instead of slowing the clock down. That’s a nice thought if it pans out,” said Dr. Finkle, who is the director of the Center for Molecular Medicine at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

New research indicates that this reversal could occur throughout the body. According to Dr Wagers, “Instead of taking a drug for your heart and a drug for your muscles and a drug for your brain, maybe you could come up with something that affected them all.”

Scientists would have to be careful if they were going to rejuvenate old body parts. They recognize that if they were to awaken stem cells there is the risk that they would uncontrollably multiply. This could cause an increase in cancer.

For now, it seems we can only dream. Imagine, a blood bank that’s the equivalent of a ‘gas station.’ Older people could come in, get a blood fill up, and be all revved up with a dose of blood that brings youthfulness back with vengeance. Finally for those who can't wait for this blood treatment, considering HGH a hormone already proven to have many anti aging benefits  might just be what the doctor ordered. Taking an HGH releaser such as Somatropinne, Hypergh 14x, Sytropin or Genf20 Plus while following a regimen of intermittent fasting and intensive exercise could be just enough to keep you in a top shape.

The appealing benefits of human growth hormone (HGH) are no longer a secret. Many people have been so drawn by them that different companies have flooded the market with various products that supposedly help to boost the HGH levels in the body. These products range from HGH injections to releasers, activators and sprays.

It has been observed that most people suffering from back pain have low levels of human growth hormone. HGH deficiency can lead to chronic degeneration of connective tissues resulting in back problems.

HGH releasers and supplements like Hypergh 14x and Genf20 Plus are not approved by the FDA for the treatment of any disease or disorder, and cannot be sold as ‘Anti Aging’ medications (This is however the case for all supplements).

The eyes may rightly be described as the light of the body. Without them, a person will be in darkness all the time. But as undesirable as it may be, vision loss does happen all the same, particularly as people get older. It is therefore not surprising to see many older people with glasses. However, it has been suggested that having sufficient human growth hormone (HGH) in the body can help to improve vision.
