The Findings of Dr. Rudman’s Clinical Study

In July of 1990, Dr. Rudman published the results of his clinical study in the New England Journal of Medicine on the effects of HGH. These results were exciting and not what many expected and as a result, a great deal of dialogue and discussion ensued.

Clinical Study Looks at the Effects of HGH Use in Men >60 Years Old

With advancing age, the reduced activity of the growth hormone insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) was seen and was attributed to the decline of lean body mass and an increase of adipose tissue.

"The overall deterioration of the body that comes with growing old is not inevitable ... We now realize that some aspects of it can be prevented or reversed." Dr. Daniel Rudman, M.D.

The Trial Methods That Dr. Rudman Used

To test the hypothesis IGF-1 plasma was studied by Dr. Rudman who used volunteers between the age of 61 and 81. The clinical trials were carried out at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Rudman used HGH that synthetically manufactured to replicate what the body normally creates naturally in the pituitary gland.

During the time of treatment, there were a total of 12 men in Group 1 who each received approx. 0.03 mg of biosynthetic HGH per kilogram of body weight subcutaneously 3 times a week. In Group 2 there were 9 men who did not receive any treatment, just a placebo. Each month the plasma IGF-1 levels were measured and Dr. Rudman’s team also measured lead body mass, skin thickness, and the mass of adipose tissue. Bone density was also measured at 9 skeletal sites.

Observations That Were Made

The group receiving the HGH treatment has mean plasma IGF-1 levels that increased back to those seen in younger more youthful ages in the range of 500 to 1500 U/liter. The second group who received only a placebo stayed below 350 U/liter.

In the group that was treated for 6 months, Dr. Rudman observed that there was an 8.8% increase in lean body mass, a 1.6% increase in lumbar vertebral bone density, a 1% increase in skin thickness, and a 14.4% decrease in adipose tissue mass. The second group saw no significant changes in any of the above criteria.

Dr. Rudman's Conclusions

According to what Dr. Rudman published in the New England Journal of Medicine, 1990; 323:1-6, reduced secretion of growth hormone is partly accountable for the decrease of lean body mass, the expansion of adipose-tissue mass, and the thinning of the skin that happens as a result of aging.

In middle and late adulthood, everyone experiences a number of progressive alterations in their body composition. A person’s lean body mass shrinks while there is an expansion of the mass of adipose tissue. The reduction in lean body mass reveals the atrophic processes in liver, spleen, kidney, skin, bone and skeletal muscle.

These changes to the human body have long been considered inevitable results of aging. However, recently it has been proposed that the reduced availability of growth hormone in late adulthood may play a role in these changes.

These changes in one’s body composition that are the result of a growth hormone deficiency can be reversed using replacement doses of HGH as experiments in children, and 20 - 50 year old adults have shown.

The findings indicate that the atrophy of the lean body mass, increase in mass of adipose tissue and its component organs are attributes of the elderly, resulting at least partially as a result of the decreased secretion of growth hormone. If so, then the age-related changes that occur to one’s body composition should be correctable in part by administering HGH, which is now easily available as a biosynthetic product.

Dr. Daniel Rudman joined the Medical College of Wisconsin, where this study was conducted, in 1988 as Professor and Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care at the Zablocki VA Medical Center. He continued his human nutrition research with the elderly until his untimely death in 1994. Dr. Rudman's life and creativity as a clinical investigator was highlighted by his ability to focus basic knowledge on important problems in clinical medicine.

Further Advanced HGH Studies

Since Dr. Rudman's initial findings, there have been thousands of HGH studies done that support the fact that HGH production decreases with age and the that HGH slows aging and reverses the aging process too.

HGH injections were first approved by the FDA for use in children who suffered from dwarfism. In August 1996, the FDA approved HGH injection use for anti-aging therapy with a physician’s prescription. The cost for this treatment ranges from $15,000 to $20,000 annually and realistically only wealthy people could afford it and take advantage of the benefits of this costly program. In fact, it has become very popular with Hollywood actors/actresses.

These days, HGH is made in a lab by using genetic engineering methods that create an identical protein to the one the human body naturally makes. Allergic reactions are seldom seen and it is considered very safe for adult use.

Today, there are also HGH supplements like Genf20 Plus, Sytropin and Genfx that do not require a doctor’s prescription. These HGH supplements are a blend of natural ingredients that help the body’s pituitary gland to increase HGH production. They do not contain any actual HGH and many people have enjoyed the benefits that these products can offer. As always, it is important that you ensure you are buying a quality product that has a proven track record, such as the GenF20 Plus HGH supplement. Not all products are created equal.
