Can HGH Treat Osteoporosis?
Have you ever wondered if you are at risk of osteoporosis or how to treat osteoporosis if you develop it? There are a number of factors that put you at risk for osteoporosis. Aging is one of the main factors. If you are 65 years old or older you are at a greater risk of developing osteoporosis. Your body type also plays a role. If you weigh more than 127 pounds and you are a small boned woman your risk goes up. Women are much more likely to develop osteoporosis than men. Women make up 80% of the cases while men make up 20%. Your family history and personal history are also factors in the determining your risk of osteoporosis.
There are a number of things you can do to decrease your risk of developing osteoporosis. We will look at many of them, but the one that peaks the most interest is HGH (Human Growth Hormone). Recent studies reveal that this treatment may be promising. First, let’s look at the study.
Osteoporosis HGH Studies
Miriam A. Brea, a radiologist at Boston General Healthcare Facility and a professor at the Harvard Medical School, headed a recent osteoporosis study that looked at HGH as a treatment. Brea remarked, “Growth hormone is vital for bone health, and some women with increased belly fat have sluggish bones and also lowered HGH levels.”
According to the US Center for Disease Control, approx. one-third of older people are obese, and that is directly linked to many medical complications including asthma, high blood pressure levels, high LDL levels, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mobility issues.
A study done previously by Dr. Bradella found that women who had extra abdominal fat had a significant higher risk of bone loss, which is why another study was done to determine whether HGH could be a good treatment option.
The study was a 6 month placebo-controlled randomized trial was piloted. It included 79 premenopausal women, who were overweight abdominally, and typically 36+ years of age, with a regular BMI associated with 35. Each of the women underwent a Mister Spectroscopy exam to evaluate their bone marrow body fat. The bone tissue mineral occurrence was recorded using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. The study investigated the leg muscle area along with the belly fat using a CT scan. The base range information was compared to the follow-up results gathered after a few months to decide when there were modifications/adjustments.
Using the baseline assessment, the study found that 32 percent of the ladies had osteopenia. The study results also revealed that after only 6-months, the ladies receiving HGH showed improved navicular bone formation, with an increase in navicular bone marrow fat as well as muscle tissue. There has also been a specific distinction noted because they had significantly less abdominal fat than others in the placebo group. The women who had the greatest level of loss in stomach fat had much better bone tissue formation.
Doctor Bredella reports, “In addition in order to bone formation, our results also indicated that growth hormone increases muscle mass, lowers abdominal fat along with decreases cardio risk guns, for example LDL cholesterol and also C-reactive protein. The risks pertaining to using HGH are very minimal and that this therapy might be useful to post-menopausal obese females. Since a reduction in the release of HGH is associated with growing older, this could are a great treatment for post-menopausal osteoporosis.”
Using HGH for Osteoporosis
Each year more than 1.5 million fractures occur as a result of osteoporosis: More than 300,000 hip fractures, 250,000 wrist fractures, and more than 700,000 vertebral fractures, and more than 300,000 fractures in other areas of the body. The numbers should be cause for alarm because 1 out of every 4 women suffer from osteoporosis, while 1 out of every 8 men will develop osteoporosis. There is a need to find out how to prevent osteoporosis if we want to change these numbers, and there is certainly a need for better treatments for osteoporosis. In the last decade osteoporosis numbers have increased seven fold and that should alarm you.
HGH is one treatment that could be beneficial to treating osteoporosis; however, it is often overlooked. HGH builds muscle and bone. Osteoporosis occurs because the bones are weak and so they are at a higher risk of fracture, so it makes sense that HGH could be beneficial. In women, once menopause occurs there is an increased risk of osteoporosis, because the bones become less porous and therefore the likelihood of suffering a break goes up significantly. While men don’t suffer menopause so they don’t have the same types of risk, they can suffer hormonal imbalances, which will also increase their risk of osteoporosis. However, the frequency is much less and it happens at a much older age. If you smoke or suffer from a chronic disease you are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.
The research has shown that HGH injections and HGH supplements can reduce osteoporosis, because they increase the amount of HGH in the body. This strengthens your bone density and muscles. HGH injections like Zorbtive, Saizen, Norditropin, Tev-Tropin, Serostim, Omnitrope and Genotropin are synthetic HGH and you need a prescription from your doctor to obtain them. You shouldn’t buy HGH injections online as this is very risky and poses serious health risks. HGH injections, don’t come cheap. You can expect it to cost you upwards of $3000 a month. HGH supplements like Genf20 Plus, Genfx, Hypergh 14x and Sytropin are a smarter choice, because they contain no HGH. What they contain is natural ingredients that are known to increase the production of HGH by boosting production in the pituitary gland. This is a much cheaper option that is very safe. HGH is a treatment option that you should look at. The science says it all.
Lifestyle Changes to Reduce the Risk of Osteoporosis
There are various lifestyle changes that you can make that will help to reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis, including dietary changes and exercise.
Exercise
Exercise in slowing the progress of osteoporosis. When you exercise moderately it helps to protect your bones, while milder exercise will help to slow down the advancement of osteoporosis. If you participate in moderate exercise three times a week for at minimum of 90 minutes your risk of developing osteoporosis is reduced in both men and women, and it will also reduce fracture as you age.
Exercise is something you need to commit to. Doing it now and then is not going to give you the benefits that you need. It also needs to be long term. If you any health issues, you are older, or you take medications, talk to your doctor before you begin any exercise program. Some exercises are more beneficial than others:
When you regularly go for a long brisk walk your mobility and bone density can improve. As you get older, don’t do high-impact aerobic exercises, because they increase your risk of a fracture. Low-impact aerobic exercises like biking or swimming don’t increase your bone density, but they are excellent cardiovascular workouts and should be part of your regular exercise regime.
Take advantage of weight-bearing exercises designed to apply tension to your muscles and bones. In the younger years bone density can be increased by as much as 8 percent a year. In premenopausal women weight bearing exercises help to protect the bones. When weight training is properly carried out and you do it with care, you will enjoy the benefits throughout middle-age and as you get older. Women will benefit the most!
Look for exercises that focus on strengthening your back, because when you get older this can help to stop you from developing a fracture and an added bonus is that it helps to improve your posture and reduce your chances of getting kyphosis. Choose low-impact exercises focusing on balancing and strengthening to help reduce your likelihood of falling. Tai chi, Nia, and yoga are all good choices.
EExercise is key to retaining your bone density as you age. Studies have clearly shown that exercise that has your muscles pull on bones helps the bone to keep its density and possibly gain density.
The Need for Vitamin D & Calcium Supplements
Taking a vitamin D and calcium supplement helps reduce your risk of osteoporosis. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends anyone under the age 50 take a minimum of 1,000 mg of calcium with 400 to 800 IU of vitamin D, and those over the age of 50 take a minimum of 1,200 mg of calcium with 800 to 1,000 IU of vitamin D.
Milk, yogurt, egg yolks and other dairy products are all good sources of calcium. Salmon, sardines (bone in), dark green vegetable (i.e. kale, broccoli) are also good sources of calcium. There are also many calcium fortified foods on the market, although keep in mind the less processed a food is the healthier it is overall.
FFoods that have a high level of oxalate can interfere with absorption calcium (i.e. spinach, beet greens) Foods high in phytate can also interfere with calcium absorption (i.e peas, beans, navy beans, pinto beans) As well, if your diet is high in caffeine, sodium or animal protein it can interfere with your calcium absorption.
The best way to get Vitamin D is through the sun and yet with the increased use of sunscreen and sun avoidance, few of us actually are able to get enough Vitamin D this way This is especially true if you live in the northern part of the world. If you are consuming the right amounts of calcium, chances are you will need a vitamin D supplement to get the benefits from your calcium supplement. As you age, your need for vitamin D goes down. Taking a combined calcium and vitamin D supplement is beneficial or at least taking both supplements at the same time, because the vitamin D is necessary for the calcium to work. Vitamin D3 or vitamin D2 both work the same way so it doesn’t matter which you choose to take./p>
The risk of developing kidney stones increases when you take either/or calcium and vitamin D. If you already have kidney stones don’t start taking any supplements until first talking with your doctor.
Calcium can also have some side effects like gas, bloating, and constipation and it can interfere with other medications so check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are on any medications.
Other Lifestyle Factors that Affect Osteoporosis
Other lifestyle factors increasing your risk of developing osteoporosis include caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine stops the absorption of calcium and alcohol causes brittle bones.
Preventing Falls and Fractures
When you reduce the risk of falls you reduce the risk of fractures – this is the number one way to help prevent fractures. Use handrails when needed, slow down your walk, and exercise to help maintain your balance and strength. Check your home for tripping hazards such as cords and rugs, and when you are away from your home be mindful of hazards that could cause you to fall. Make sure you keep your room well lit so that hazards are more obvious. Poor vision can create a risk so have your eyes checked regularly. Watch for side effects from medication and low blood pressure when you stand up.
Conclusion
Osteoporosis affects approx. 25 percent of women and approx. 12 percent of men – that’s a lot and the problem needs to be addressed. Treatments are limited and haven’t shown great success. HGH shows great promise and is definitely worth trying if you are at risk of osteoporosis. For a list of nonprescription HGH supplements click here!
